The walk is extremely popular and follows well defined paths throughout with no real difficulties; however, care should always be take this is where you will benefit from been guided by us to make the day a very positive experience. This was one of Wainwright's favourite ridge walks; the round was described by him as “a great horseshoe of grassy slopes below a consistently high skyline, simple in design and impressive in altitude.

Loughrigg Fell/ Grasmere Village (Day 2)
Loughrigg Fell is a hill in the central part of the English Lake District. It stands on the end of the long ridge coming down from High Raise over Silver How towards Ambleside, and is separated from its neighbours by the depression of Red Bank. Just beyond the eastern end of the Terrace are some quite remarkable caves, caused by quarrying. They penetrate about 150 feet (46 m) into the hillside and are often full of water. We will visit the peak of Loughrigg starting from Ambleside taking in the 360 views along the way.
The highest rocky knoll can be identified by an Ordnance Survey triangulation column beside a large cairn, both standing out from the turf. The view includes intimate views of the Langdale Pikes and the fells around Grasmere, together with the Fairfield horseshoe from day 1 and the Coniston fells. Elter Water, Grasmere and a large part of Windermere can also be seen.
Grasmere Village
Grasmere is a village and tourist destination in Cumbria, England, in the centre of the Lake District, named after its adjacent Lake. It has links with the Lake Poets: William Wordsworth lived in Grasmere for 14 years and called it "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found. Grasmere lies within the historic county of Westmoorland.
We can visit the Famous gingerbread shop the Gingerbread was invented in 1854 by Victorian creator cook Sarah Nelson who mixed and baked her spicy-sweet chewy concoction inside her neat Church Cottage home – now The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop – and sold it to villagers and visitors from a table top on a tree stump outside her front door.
When we have stocked up in Grasmere we will start our walk back to Ambleside walking alongside the beautiful Grasmere Lake and Rydal water. We have the option to visit the loughrigg caves on our walk back taking in the amazing cathedral like caves.
